My Purpose

#StopDomesticViolence

My name is Rheisha Shol and I grew up around domestic violence. For 13 years of my life, I lived in an abusive home. My father wasn’t so much of an alcoholic, he was just filled with rage and anger. He often took his frustration out on my mother more than he did my little sister and I, but it seemed like he was just never happy with us.

From the outside looking in, our lives looked picture perfect. Perfect home, perfect wife, perfect kids, perfect car, perfect job, and just PERFECT everything. But our life was just the opposite.

After 13 years of abuse, my mother eventually divorced my abusive father. And ever since then, our lives have been at peace. As a child, I’ve always made a promise to myself to help others going through domestic violence and to raise awareness for this cause.

On June 28th, 2014, my life changed forever. I won the title as Houston Caribbean Queen 2015 and my platform for the pageant was domestic violence. My purpose is to shine light on this issue by educating and raising awareness because it is a touchy subject that most people do not like to speak about. As a whole, we need to speak up, speak out and make a difference for victims of this violence by speaking to someone trustworthy, reporting it, and getting out of the abusive relationship.
